« on: July 29, 2015, 07:14:40 PM »
You exit the portal into Elimar; the cave below Ilyra is illuminated with the mixture of the eerie light emanating from the portal and the dancing light of the burning braziers. The other travelers around you begin to follow the lighted path upwards to the outpost, you decide to follow the path as well.

As you approach the exit of the cave, you notice the feint sound of a bell ringing. The scent of burning grass flows around you and fills the cavern. You cautiously pick up your pace and peer out of the cave opening into the chaos unfolding around you.

Piles of burning brush lay scattered about the old ruins that the outpost is built upon. You hear a man scream in pain to your left, you turn to see the man covered in a thorny brush pile. The pile creeps around the man's torso, dragging its sharp thorns deeper into the skin of its victim.

You feel a slap at your leg that bring your focus back to the ground in front of you. A large root pokes through the ground and flails in your direction. Suddenly, the root grows large, vicious thorns and begins to thrash violently in your direction. You quickly move out of the reach of the flailing root and consider your options.

A black darkness that has not been visited by light in nearly a century is pierced by a single glowing red ember of light. The deafening silence is broken by the sounds of metal scraping along stone, a long slow grinding accentuated by the flicker of sparks.

"Master?" A raspy voice calls out into the darkness, "We survive?" it asks.

The reply is weak, a voice used to strength and true power. "Quiet, allow me to drink in this new energy. It is familiar to me."

Hodges runs his finger along the runes that are carved into the massive stone door before him. As his finger brushes the stone, a dark shadow flows over the carving chasing the flesh.

"Hold tight, dear boy" Hodges says to the young lion Sarr standing next to him. Hodges then stabs his finger in quick sequence into several depressions that are in the stone. He had been deciphering the runes and the meaning of the depressions for a few days now and he was sure that he had solved the riddle. With a grin to his apprentice and a grand flourish Hodges places his hand within the carved inset hand that is also carved into the grand door.

The runes of the door dance with flickering shadows. Hodges' grin turns to a grimace of pain before the sounds of his bones breaking and his flesh liquifying accompany the sudden suction that forces his body against the stone door. The young Sarr falls to the floor in unbelieving horror as his mentor is absorbed into the stone of the door.

The moment is over just as quickly as it began. Hodges is nowhere to be seen and the young Sarr lays in shock on the cold dirt floor. A slow flow of blood creeps under the stone door, silently menacing the quivering boy. It is slow at first, but it grows in intensity; the sound of something licking stone can be heard from behind the stone door.
